Anamika Nambiar

Born and raised in India, I draw my inspiration from the country’s diverse and rich cultural heritage. As a mixed-media artist I explore the traditional forms of Indian culture — colour, vibrancy, symbolism and mythology — in oil, acrylic, ink, chalk pastel and print.

I am drawn to projects that push me past my comfort zone: new themes, unfamiliar palettes, complex commissions. The unpredictability of the creative process is what excites me most; it asks me to take risks and to work with freedom and curiosity.

Exhibitions and the company of other artists keep me learning — new techniques, new ways of seeing. In commissioned work I try to capture the essence of a subject, working closely with each client until the painting resonates with their vision.
